Keep writing in the app you chose
Traditional dictation can force you to compose in one window and move the text somewhere else. VTA Dictate is designed around the active cursor: select a normal editable field, trigger listening, and let the words arrive where the work is happening.
That makes voice useful for quick replies as well as long-form writing. Draft a Word document, answer a support ticket, write in a browser editor, respond in Discord, or speak a detailed prompt before reviewing and submitting it to an AI tool.
Keyboard, mouse, and hands-free controls
Choose a global hotkey, map a mouse button, or configure a voice phrase. Push-to-talk is ideal for short bursts. Toggle mode works well for longer passages. Always Listening mode keeps pending speech in memory and waits for your chosen send phrase.
The best trigger depends on the app, room, microphone, and amount of text. Keeping several choices available means the software can adapt to a gaming setup, office desk, accessibility need, or couch-and-laptop workflow.
A practical fallback for difficult fields
Some elevated windows, remote sessions, terminals, games, or custom controls restrict direct insertion. In those cases, clipboard paste offers a safer recovery path. Secure password fields should remain outside a voice workflow altogether.
For terminals and commands, use voice to draft rather than execute. Check paths, quotes, switches, punctuation, and destructive operations with your eyes before pressing Enter. Speed is useful only when the review step stays intact.
